“You’re safe, Mayra.” Nothing and no one were going to get to her.

She yawned. “I’m not sleeping until you get in this bed with me.”

That was a lie. She was likely to fall asleep in thirty seconds if we stopped talking. “Why do you want me to sleep with you so badly?”

  “I just do.”

Well, at least she didn’t try to feed me a line of crap again.

  “Pwease,” she pleaded.

Well, hell. I was trying to be a gentleman and not pressure her into anything, but she wasn’t having it. “Let me hit the bathroom.”

She closed her eyes, and a sly smile spread across her lips. “I’ll be here, waiting.”

After I walked out of the bathroom, I moved to the opposite side of the bed from Mayra and slid in under the covers. She rolled her body into me and draped a leg and an arm over me. “Goodnight,” she whispered.

  “Night, M-baby.”

She snuggled into me and laid her head on my chest.

Tonight ended with Mayra in my arms, and tomorrow was going to start with her in my bed.

Tomorrow was going to be a fucking awesome day.

  Chapter Fifteen

  Mayra

“Did the cabin come with a maid or butler?”

Boink’s body rumbled beneath me. “I think Wrecker might have skimped on the maid.”

  “Figures,” I grumbled.

“I’ll let Clash know you request maid service.”

I smacked his chest and snuggled into his warmth. “Don’t do that. I know everyone at the club hates me already. They don’t need to think I’m a diva or something.”

“What do you mean they all hate you?”

I rolled my eyes and laid my hand on his bare chest.

It was half past nine, and Boink and I were still lying in bed where I was enjoying the feel of his bare chest with colorful tattoos all over it.

“Uh, did you forget I have the mafia trying to find me? I put the whole clubhouse in danger.”

“You’re not the first chick to do that,” he chuckled.

I lifted my head and looked up at him. “Say what?”

“Well, you’re first to mess with the mafia, but each of the other girls have brought shit along with them that messed with the club. Nikki had some crazy guy stalking her, Karmen had a guy trying to hurt her and her dad.”

“What about Wren and Alice?” I asked. At least I was in good company with having trouble follow me.

“Uh, Wren was Cora’s friend who got in with the wrong guys.”

“I’m assuming there is a lot more to that story than that,” I whispered.

“Maniac saved her, M. That’s all I can say.”

If Boink didn’t want to tell me about what happened to Wren, I had to imagine that it was pretty awful. “So what about Alice?” I couldn’t imagine her getting into much serious trouble.

“She was more of a distraction for Wrecker while he was trying to deal with club stuff. Though I do hear talk about her locking a guy in her trunk, but that was before she met Wrecker.”

“A guy locked in her trunk?” I couldn’t help but giggle. That sounded like something Alice would do. “And now you’re stuck with the mafia chick.”

He put his fingers under my chin and tipped my head back further. “Not stuck with you, M. Not in the way you’re thinking.”

“Admit it, you were super pissed at me before.”

“I was but being pissed at you isn’t going to fix anything. You should have done shit a hell of a lot differently, but we’ll get it fixed. Though I still don’t get why you went to work for Oakley. You went from one bad thing to the other.”

I twisted my head out of his hold and laid it back down on his chest.

“Mayra,” he called. “Why does it feel like there is more you need to tell me?”

Because there was more. “Since we don’t have a maid, I guess that means I better get up and make coffee.” I tried to scoot out of bed, but Boink wrapped his arm around me and rolled me onto my back. He covered me with his body and caged me in with his arms.

  “Don’t move,” he growled low.

  Shit.

  Shit shit shit.

I didn’t want to talk about this. I didn’t want to ruin the moment we were having just being a regular couple lying in bed together. “Boink, please. I don’t want to talk about it. Not now.”

“And when do you want to talk about it? When the Banachi’s find you and either kill you or sell you? I don’t think you understand what you are dealing with, Mayra. I told you I was going to help you get out of trouble, but I can’t help or protect you when I don’t know what’s coming at us.”

  “I…I don’t…”

  “Mayra,” he growled.

“I don’t think it’s anything that can hurt me. It’s just the reason why I went to work for Oakley.”

“And what was that reason?” he demanded.

I closed my eyes and willed myself to sleep. If I wasn’t conscious, I didn’t need to have this conversation with Boink. “I’m feeling kind of sleepy.”

“Mayra, so help me, if you don’t tell me what the hell your reason was for working for Oakley, I’m going to paddle your ass until you tell me.”

“You wouldn’t,” I gasped. My backside was finally feeling a bit better, but it was still a putrid shade of purple that would hurt like hell if he spanked me.

“Tell me why you worked for Oakley.”

  I shook my head. “No.

  “Tell me, now,” he growled.

“Only if you promise you won’t spank me.” My butt couldn’t take any kind of spanking right now.

  “Tell me.”

“Promise me,” I retorted. I wasn’t going to budge until he promised.

He curled his lip. “I promise I won’t paddle you.”

“Ever,” I added. I was covering all of my bases. I knew being spanked was not my thing so to get that fully out of the way was good.

“Ever,” he conceited. “Now tell me why you went to work for Oakley.”

“It’s going to sound bad, but it’s not that bad. No one knows but me and my mom, and my mom is dead, so you know I’m the only one who knows so maybe if I tell you that would be ba—”

  “Mayra,” he thundered. “Tell me.”

I closed my eyes and squeezed them shut tightly. “Oakley Mykel is my half-brother.”

  He didn’t say anything.

  He didn’t move.

I was pretty sure he had stopped breathing completely.

I cracked open one eye and saw he was still staring down at me. His jaw was clenched tight, and a vein in his neck was slightly throbbing.

“Uh, say something? Anything,” I whispered.

“Your half-brother is Oakley Mykel. The biggest drug lord in the Midwest.”

When he said it like that, it didn’t sound very good. “But he doesn’t know. As far as my mom knew, no one knows she was his mom.”

“Explain to me how this happened.” He had still yet to move, but he was at least talking to me.

“Before my mom met my dad, she went out on a couple of dates with a guy who was in town for the summer visiting his family.”

  “Oakley’s dad?”

I nodded. “My mom had no idea who the guy was. She said he was nice and handsome. She didn’t know that he was the son of a drug dealer or anything like that.”

  “But she eventually found out.”

I nodded again. “Two weeks before he was supposed to go back home, my mom started getting sick. She went to the doctor and found out she was pregnant.”

Boink hung his head. “And I’m assuming he ended up wanting the baby but not your mom.”

“Yes, but my mom didn’t want him either from what she said. She tried to keep the baby and, you know, have joint custody, but Oakley’s dad wasn’t having that. He told her he would make sure she went broke before she ever got to keep Oakley for herself.”

  “So she gave him up,”
he whispered.

I nodded. “She still has the old birth certificate that has her name on it. I went to Oakley thinking he could help protect me from the Banachi’s.”

Oakley Mykel and Leo Banachi were both big names in the underworld of crime. My mom had given me the birth certificate and told me the story before she died.

“So not only do you have Leo Banachi chasing you, you’re also related to Oakley Mykel.”

“But no one knows,” I added hopefully, as if that was going to make everything better.

“Fucking Christ, Mayra. Never thought in a million years that was what you were going to say.”

“Then just forget that I said it.” Easy peasy.

“But why didn’t you tell Oakley when you got to his club?”

I pursed my lips and glanced to the side. “I got there and chickened out on telling him. Instead, I got a job thinking I could work up my courage to talk to him.”

  “So what happened?”

“The type of man I saw Oakley to be was not what I had expected. I understood he’s a man who doesn’t always do the right thing, but there’s a type of evil in him. He’s nothing like the person I thought he would be. I figured he had to have a bit of my mom inside of him, but there isn’t.”

“Where is the birth certificate?” he asked.

I nodded toward my suitcase that was on the floor. “In the lining. I’m still deciding if I should burn it or hold on to it in case I need it.”

“So, you never want to tell him? Talk to him and see what he says?” Boink asked.

I shook my head. “He has a sister, Boink. A much younger sister who he treats like garbage. He’s always saying he’ll sell her if she doesn’t act appropriately. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve glimpsed bruises on her arms. He’s not a good man, Boink.”

“So, you have a sister, too?”

“From what I hear, she is from his father who had an affair with some woman.”

“For fuck’s sake.” He pressed a kiss to my forehead and rolled out of bed.

“What are you doing?” I leaned up on one elbow and watched him grab my suitcase.

He unzipped it, then ripped the lining of my suitcase.

“Hey, there was a zipper to get to it,” I scolded. “You didn’t need to ruin my suitcase.” I didn’t have a lot of things so I needed to be careful with what I had.

“I’ll buy you a new one,” he mumbled. He grabbed the envelope that was tucked to the side. “This it?” he asked.

  I nodded. “Uh, yeah.”

He slid his finger along the seal and ripped it open. “Father, Sanford Mykel. Mother, Sandra Jykin,” he read off.

“That’s her maiden name. She became Sandra Zinker when she married my dad.”

He looked up from the birth certificate with a smirk on his lips. “Mayra Zinker?”

I shrugged. Not the greatest, but it was my name. “Says the man named Boink.”

“Boink ain’t my real name, M-baby.” He folded back up the birth certificate and tossed it on the dresser.

“What is your real name?” I asked.

“We really having this talk right now? I just found out I slept with Oakley Mykel’s half-sister last night.”

I rolled my eyes and flopped back onto the bed. “All we did was sleep.”

“Only ‘cause you passed out before I could even get Elle and Agnes out the door.”

I flitted my hand in the air. “My butt hurt, and the wine helped.”

“And the pain pill you took,” he added.

“That too. Now, tell me what your real name is.”

“You aren’t gonna call me it. My name is Boink, M.”

“That’s the second question as soon as you tell me what your real name is. I need to know how you got the club name of Boink.”

He grabbed his shirt off the floor and pulled it over his head.

“When did that happen?” I asked.

  “What?”

  “Your shirt coming off.”

“You’re all over the place, M. I got hot last night with you draped all over me. I took it off.”

  “I like it off.”

A smirk spread across his lips. “I’ll keep that in mind.”

I closed my eyes and shook my head. “Back to your name. You can’t distract me with your body.”

“Oh, was I distracting you?” He stalked back to the bed and planted a knee into the soft mattress.

“No touching,” I protested. I never should have said that his shirtlessness was distracting. He was probably never going to have a shirt on anymore when we needed to have a serious talk. Like me needing to know what his real name is. “Tell me your name.” He grabbed my hand and pulled up. He wrapped one arm around my waist to hold me close, and I tipped my head back to look up at him. “Please,” I added.

“What do I get if I tell you my name?”

“Um, a kiss?” I didn’t have anything to give except for that. This would be a test to see if he really was interested in me.

“That all I get? I was kind of hoping you would say breakfast.”

I smacked him on the chest. “So, you’d rather fill your stomach than kiss me. I see how it is now.”

He grabbed my hand and pressed a kiss to my palm. “How about a kiss, and then breakfast?”

“You drive a hard bargain, Mr…” I trailed off waiting for him to fill in the blank.

  “Wynn. Jeremy Wynn.”

I furrowed my brow and pursed my lips. “That’s not even a bad name.”

  “Never said it was, M.”

“Then why the hell do you go by Boink? I would have just gone by your last name. Wynn is hot.”

“‘Cause road names are what happens in a club.”

“And you got saddled with Boink,” I laughed. “I totally would have objected to that one if I were you.”

“Don’t really get a choice in the matter. Something happens, a name sticks.”

I ran my hand up his chest. “I think I know why you got the name Boink, but I do need to know.”

“I like to fuck, M. Wish there was a better story to it than that. When I first joined the club, whenever they called a meeting or needed me, they always knew they could find me with one chick or another.”

I dropped my chin to my chest. I cannot be upset about this. I cannot be upset about this, I chanted over and over in my head. All guys liked sex. It shouldn’t be surprising or sting so much that Boink did too. “We should come up with a better story. Something like you got rip roaring drunk one night and thought you were a fairy. You grabbed a broom and started hitting people on the head with it while yelling ‘boink.’”

He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me close to his chest. His body shook, and I knew he was laughing his ass off at me. “You should write children's books, M. That would be mighty funny to read.”

I rolled my eyes. “I don’t really think parents want to read to their kids about bikers getting drunk and thinking they are fairies.”

“True, though it is funny as hell to think about.” He pressed a kiss to the side of my head. “Don’t be mad at me, M. I didn’t know you or even knew you existed back then,” he whispered.

“I don’t know what you are talking about,” I croaked.

He buried his face in my hair and sighed. “Am I still going to get my kiss?”

Sounded like he had plenty of kisses so far. Did mine really matter? Hell, I was jealous as shit. “How about breakfast first?” Me being pissed about him liking sex was my own problem I needed to figure out. I technically wasn’t dating him or anything. He was just tasked with keeping me safe.

“How about you kiss me, and then we can decide on what we’ll do after?”

“Uh…I…Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, Boink.” I cringed having to use his name. I was going to have to start calling him Wynn or even dude.

  “Mayra, look at me.”

I shook my head and tried to pull out of his arms.

  He wrapped his
arms tighter around me, lifted me up, and laid me down on the bed. He covered me with his body, and we were back in the same position we were minutes ago. I closed my eyes and turned my head to the side.

“You really are a stubborn one, aren’t you?” Boink chuckled.

Of course, the butt munch was laughing at me. “I don’t know what you are talking about,” I replied through clenched teeth.

His fingers gripped my chin, and he turned my head to face him. He couldn’t make me open my eyes though.

“You can’t be mad at me, M. I had a life before you came waltzing into it.”

“I didn’t waltz anywhere,” I mumbled. “I was trying to lay low and Raven offered a place for me to lay even lower.” That sort of made sense. At least in my head, it did.

“Well, you’re laying with me now.”

I cracked open one eye. “I don’t think that’s really special anymore.”

His eyes turned a turbulent shade of blue, and I knew I had said the exact wrong thing. “You got a past, Mayra?”

  I nodded.

  “Have sex with guys?”

“Boink, we are not going to talk about this.” I struggled to get out of his hold but I couldn’t budge.

“You’re right, we’re not going to talk about the guys who have been in bed with you before me, just like we aren’t going to talk about the woman I’ve been with.”

My heart plummeted again at the thought. “Please.” I needed to get away from him right now so I could figure out just what the hell I was feeling.

“You don’t get to be mad or upset at my past, Mayra. All that matters now is what’s happening between you and I.”

“Is there something happening between us?” I asked flippantly.

He leaned down close to my face. “If you think there isn’t something going on between us, you’re fucking wrong. Wanted you since I saw you at the club.”

Leave it to Boink to be blunt and to the point. “No, you didn’t.” He was lying. There was no way he had seen me in that club and wanted me. There were plenty of girls that were ready and willing for Boink.

“You don’t get to tell me what I think or feel, M-baby. Just like I don’t get to tell you that you can’t be upset about my past. What I can do is make you forget about my past and be here with me right now.”
